What it is

A daily capsule that pairs three things — plus one permitted nutrient:

  • Pasteurised Akkermansia muciniphila — the strain authorised by the EU as a Novel Food in 2022, and the form studied in the original human proof-of-concept trial.
  • Freeze-dried European bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) — the wild northern berry with two to four times the anthocyanin content of cultivated blueberries.
  • A standardised bilberry polyphenol extract — for a consistent polyphenol dose.

The science, in brief

Akkermansia muciniphila lives in the mucin layer of the gut and is one of the most-studied bacteria in metabolic research. In a 2019 human trial in Nature Medicine, daily supplementation with the pasteurised form over three months was safe and associated with favourable metabolic markers in overweight, insulin-resistant adults (Depommier et al., 2019); a 2025 trial in Cell Metabolism extended this into type 2 diabetes (Zhang et al., 2025). Researchers also identified a protein the bacterium secretes — P9 — that triggers GLP-1 release (Yoon et al., 2021). Bilberry's polyphenols sit alongside this: berry polyphenols of this class shift the microbiota toward Akkermansia and have been studied with insulin sensitivity (Anhê et al., 2015; Lee et al., 2018).

How to take it

One capsule daily with water. Not suitable for children under 12, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. A food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet.
