Vekovia · Pomegranate
Pasteurised Akkermansia muciniphila + freeze-dried European pomegranate + vitamin C. The longevity-leaning pairing.
Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
The fruit whose ellagitannins gut microbes turn into urolithin A.
What it is
Four ingredients, one capsule a day:
- Pasteurised Akkermansia muciniphila — the EU-authorised Novel Food strain.
- Freeze-dried European pomegranate, rich in ellagitannins and in particular punicalagin, the compounds gut microbes convert into urolithin A.
- A standardised pomegranate polyphenol extract, so the ellagitannin dose is the same in every capsule.
- Vitamin C, which contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
The science, in brief
In mice, pomegranate ellagitannins stimulated the growth of Akkermansia muciniphila (Henning et al., 2017). Those same ellagitannins are the raw material gut microbes convert into urolithin A, a molecule tested in randomised human trials for markers of mitochondrial and cellular health and for muscle function (Andreux et al., 2019; Singh et al., 2022). In cell and mouse work, urolithin A acted on gut-barrier integrity through the Nrf2 pathway (Singh et al., 2019). A 2024 systematic review in Ageing Research Reviews collected the human urolithin A evidence in one place (Kuerec et al., 2024).
Honest note: the conversion from ellagitannins to urolithin A depends on which microbes a person carries, and it varies a great deal between people. We give you the substrate. Your gut does the chemistry, or it doesn't.

How to take it
One capsule daily with water. Not suitable for children under 12, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. A food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet.
